Forever Friends

I felt like posting something meaningful today. Although it’s more fun to read humour and satire, I’m posting this anyway. :D

Apart from eating, sleeping, reading, surfing the net, dancing, singing and going to the toilet numerous times per day, I’ve also been contemplating over plenty.

Throughout my whole life, I’ve met people from all walks of life. I’ve made friends with many. From people who wouldn’t want to befriend me for the slightest of reasons all the way to people who would give me anything to keep the friendship [I remember in primary years, this girl offered me her watch which she loved very much. I rejected the offer of the gift but accepted the offer of friendship].

Well there are:

Friends who let me down.

Friends whom I’ve let down.

Friends who have disappointed me.

Friends whom I have disappointed.

Friends who took advantage of me.

Friends whom I’ve taken advantage of.

I’ve had all kinds of friends. I’m sure everyone has and I’ve learnt some of the most valuable lessons in life through friends.

1. You’ll never know what you’ve got until it’s gone.

2. My friends are just like me – capable of making mistakes anytime.

3. If you have too many expectations from friends, you’ll end up not having many friends. Accept them as they are.

4. Never take too much to heart, unless you intend to be disappointed your whole life.

5. Never make assumptions.

6. ‘Friend’ isn’t another word for ‘tool’.

7. Be yourself, not like your friend.

8. Secrets and promises are meant to be kept.

9. Never take advantage of your friend. She/He may not seem to mind but all humans have feelings.

10. To keep thy friends, forgive and reconcile or you’ll end up having more enemies than friends.

The list can go on but I shall stretch no further.

Indeed, it is evident that true friends are hard to find. Perhaps we should stop searching but learn to appreciate the people around us

lest we’ll never be satisfied nor find them.

Forever Friends

To all those whom I’ve hurt, I apologize. This I say in sincerity.

To all my friends, I truly appreciate you. :) And I’m glad you’re part of my life.

For friendship creeds, these are some of my favourites.

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.

- C. S. Lewis

The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend.

- Henry David Thoreau

True friends stab you in the front.

- Oscar Wilde

Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.

- Oprah Winfrey

I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar.

- Robert Brault

You can always tell a real friend: when you’ve made a fool of yourself he doesn’t feel you’ve done a permanent job.

- Laurence J. Peter
